Budget – As the Director of the Office of Strategic Services at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, I oversaw a $22 million budget, 75 employees and $40 million in annual hunting and fishing license sales. This was one of the largest budgets and staffs within the agency.
Public Works/Planning/Transportation – As a Policy Advisor at the Illinois Department of Transportation, I worked with federal, state and local agencies as a liaison to the Secretary’s office on special projects including the 2012 NATO summit in Chicago, the High Speed Rail demonstration in 2012, the South Suburban Airport and road projects statewide. I also advised on operational planning and needs for the 5,300 person, $19 billion agency. I worked with municipalities daily regarding pending road and rail projects, drainage issues and planning needs.
Tourism – At DNR, I produced “Conservation World” at the Illinois State Fair and other special events across the state, including the Fort Massac Encampment, National Hunting and Fishing Day and the Deer and Turkey Classic. At IDOT, I served as point of contact for several new IDOT initiatives and programs including outreach, marketing and promotions related to communities along the high-speed rail corridor and national scenic byways and created a comprehensive tourism presence throughout the state. At both agencies, I served as the Tourism liaison. Privately, I own a boutique consulting firm whose main client was the Illinois Council of Convention and Visitors Bureaus. For over a year, during their most critical budget battle, I was able to create strategic messaging and legislative assistance to their primary lobbyist. The outcome of my efforts resulted in the majority of Convention and Visitors Bureaus being fully funded.
Legislative – At IDNR, I was responsible for identifying and resolving unfunded mandates within the agency. Whether this meant going to JCAR for resolution or crafting new legislation with our Legislative Affairs office, I was able to clean up dozens of unfunded mandates. At IDOT, I managed a statewide Community Liaison staff of 20 that addressed local issues with Mayors, City Managers, County Boards and Metropolitan Planning Organizations and crafted several outreach plans that promote mega projects throughout the state. I even worked with Ward 6 on a few overpass and right-of-way issues with Alderman Jobe.
Personal – As a single Mother, I would offer a different perspective and a fresh voice. I am a Springfield native who has lived in several Wards throughout the city and have called Ward 6 home since 2010. I served on the Ward 6 Fund Board and have also been involved in several MacArthur Boulevard Association events. I am active at my son’s school and serve as a Board member for the Springfield March of Dimes. I have also volunteered for the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame for several years. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Illinois-Springfield and have won several awards during my career. My 8 year-old son, Stanley is the light of my life. I enjoy cooking (especially the eating part of it), entertaining, live music and travel.
